Defining the Program’s Purpose
The main goal of the Global Talent Visa Program is to find and ask people with exceptional skills in certain fields that are important to Australia’s strategic interests. By doing this, Australia hopes to strengthen its knowledge economy, make it more competitive on the international stage, and encourage a culture of creativity.

Australia’s Global Talent Visa Program
The Global Talent Immigration Program is designed for the greatest and brightest global talent and includes two immigration pathways:
- The Global Talent pathway
- The Distinguished Talent pathway.
The Global Talent expedited pathway is for highly qualified individuals with a globally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievements in key industries. Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and then be invited to apply through this channel.
The Global Talent Pathway priority sectors are:
- Resources
- Agri-food and AgTech
- Energy
- Health industries
- Defense, advanced manufacturing, and space
- Circular economy
- Digitech
- Infrastructure and tourism
- Financial services and FinTech
- Education.
The Distinguished Talent track is designed for exceptionally gifted applicants with a globally recognized record of extraordinary and outstanding achievements in a career, sport, the arts, or academics and research.
With this visa, you can
- stay in Australia permanently
- work and study in Australia
- enroll in Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
- sponsor your relatives to come to Australia
- travel to and from Australia for 5 years
- if eligible, apply for Australian citizenship
Certain Australian Government payments and perks may be delayed for newly arrived residents.

When you apply and when this visa is decided, you must be in or outside of Australia but not in immigration clearance.
How long you can stay
This is a long-term visa. It allows you to remain in Australia indefinitely.
On the day we issue the visa, you become a permanent resident.
For citizenship reasons, your permanent residency begins on the following date:
- If you are in Australia, we will give you the visa.
- If you are not from Australia, you can enter on this visa.
Include family
When applying, you may include members of your family unit. You can also add family members to your application at any moment before we make a decision.
If you are under the age of 18, you may include:
- a parent
- members of the family unit of that parent
The applicant’s family members must meet our health and character requirements.
Cost Australia Global Talent Visa Program
- The main applicant must pay AUD4,305.00 for the visa.
- Each family member who applies for a visa with you must pay an additional fee.
- Use the Visa pricing estimator to figure out how much your visa will cost. The estimator does not account for the second installment or any extra expenditures.
- We will not be able to submit your application if you do not pay the correct visa application fee. If this is the case, we will notify you and, if necessary, return your application.
- You may be required to pay an additional fee if you are over the age of 18 and have less than functional English. This is referred to as the second installment. We will notify you when the second installment is due.
- The second installment fee is $4,890.
- The second installment and other charges are not included in the Visa Pricing Estimator. You may also be charged for health exams, police certifications, and biometrics.
Processing times
Global Talent pathway
- 25% of applications: 5 Months
- 50% of applications: 5 Months
- 75% of applications: 5 Months
- 90% of applications: 7 Months
We evaluate applications on an individual basis. Actual processing timeframes may differ owing to individual factors such as:
- whether you have been invited to apply for this visa through the Global Talent Pipeline
- whether you have applied for the Distinguished Talent pathway
- whether you have submitted a full application with all necessary supporting documentation
- how quickly do you respond to additional information requests?
- how long it takes to execute required checks on submitted supporting information how long it takes to receive additional information from external authorities with respect to health, character, and national security needs
- how many spots in the migration program are available
Your obligations
- You and your family must abide by all Australian laws.
- We anticipate that you will make an important contribution to Australia in your field of expertise.
Travel
You have 5 years from the day we issue the visa to travel to and from Australia. You will need a Resident Return (RRV) visa (subclass 155 or 157) to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident after 5 years. Use VEVO to find out when the five years are up.
Visa label
Your visa will be digitally linked to your passport. There will be no label on your passport.
